Studio 44 is situated on the north east coast of the island, outside of the village of Roches Noires.

Jean Claude Desvaux de Marigny first fell in love with the medium of glass during a visit to Batimex in 1989. Twenty years later he is pursuing his dream to work with glass. However he has not forgotten his first love of painting in acrylics, oils and watercolours.

After taking a crash course in stained glass whilst on holiday in Australia and continuing his training in South Africa, his creativity flowed and from stained glass lamps and large panels, he moved into fused and slumped glass and mosaics. He has now introduced new techniques working with specially developed paints.

All materials used are of the highest quality and specially sourced for his projects.

For the past three years he has been designing and producing glass dishes and bowls. Some are designed especially for restaurants and private clients who wish to have something out of the ordinary and unique. Others are produced and sold at the various fairs held around the island towards the end of the year.

With the new techniques he has recently studied in South Africa he will be targeting designers, architects and developers to bring to their developments something with a typically Mauritian flavour, which is a once-off design suited specifically to each project.

Glass is a medium that has life. When the light catches a glass object it is alive and changes when viewed from different angles.

Jean Claude will now be offering workshops, tailored to suit one or more people at a time; half-day or full-day.
